Allen Iverson donates money for gun buyback | From NBC12 News

A Virginia congressman says pro basketball star and Virginia native Allen Iverson is donating money to help the Newport News Police Dept. continue its gun buyback program.

Congressman Robert "Bobby" Scott announced last night the Denver Nuggets player is donating $100,000 to the Peninsula Community Foundation. Scott said he hopes the donation will prompt other contributions. Iverson said in a statement that he remembers growing up in Newport News and Hampton and his efforts are "more than worth it" if the program "can prevent one more child from being killed and another family from crying and mourning the death of another loved one.'' Residents turned in about 400 guns in just a few hours in a buyback on Dec. 15. Police used donations to exchange gift cards for the guns, but said the weapons kept coming in after the gift cards were gone.

What is the significance of this article? John Stossel, and investigative reporter for ABC 20/20 did an exhaustive study and episode on the subject of gun control. A summarization of it can be seen at here. It clearly and scientifically stated that less guns in society results in more gun crimes. I've never felt comfortable with the Homeland Security Act because of it's implications on personal liberty and freedom. The congressmen who salutes Iverson for his donation toward gun control happens to be an influential member of the Department of Homeland Security. Clearly in history, for power to be taken from the common people and given completely to the elite few (dictators, etc) the private possession of weapons has been banned. I think it is sad that so many of the good deeds that are done in the name charity can actually bring forth harm. I'm sure Iverson was wanting to help the community in which he had seen crime and violence. What do you think would have been a better way for him to use this money to achieve this? Do you think what he did will help? I would love to hear from you.
